The Secret Place

But when you pray, go into your room, shut the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you (Matt 6:6).

God always seems to know exactly what I need to work on at just the right time. To me, the room in this verse isn’t Miss Clara’s prayer closet, but an area in my mind. It’s the place where the Father and I meet to commune. But even when I’m the one talking, another room in my mind is off somewhere else. I might be replaying a past event, or rehearsing how I’m going to respond to someone, or going over my to-do list (can a to-do list be an idol, a false god?).

I know this verse may have a totally unrelated message for someone else–that’s the beauty of God’s word, but today this is how God spoke to me.

I may need a bank vault size door, but to focus directly on the Father solely is worth every second.

  1. This passage is so dear to me! Prayer is the one SECRET place where we don’t have to HIDE. We can come to the love Father– to the One who sees ALL things, and be able to expose all our shame and guilt and fear and poverty and and sin and wretchedness and brokenness and blindness and be completely naked before Him… and still be bathed and received into eternal Love.
