Eternity

He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the hearts of men. Yet they cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to end. (Ecl. 3:11)

What’s on your bucket list? It doesn’t really matter if it’s tiny or huge; selfish or humanitarian. The minute it’s checked off another will appear. That’s okay. Goals and dreams are not a bad thing.

But God has put eternity in our hearts. Nothing or nobody this side of heaven can ever fulfill or satisfy that longing. In our limited understanding, we can’t even begin to grasp it—we can’t imagine what God has in mind. That’s not our job anyway; trust and faith and hope are.

Don’t you just love the words in this verse? They make me feel such a connection to the Father—He has placed eternity in our heart.

  1. …we can’t even begin to grasp it—we can’t imagine what God has in mind. That’s not our job anyway; trust and faith and hope are.

These words struck me because I’m always trying “to figure it out”. It’s so wise to remember that “…it’s not our job…”.

  2. We can never be satisfied with earthly things because we were created in God’s image. We all have a spiritual thirst, even those that do not follow Him. Nothing but God can satisfy us. Many try to quench that thirst in earthly pleasures but that will only leave you wanting more. Only God knows the future and holds eternity in His hands. How awesome to be able rest in the One that knows the future and loves us deeply. Only He offers us a life eternal through His son Jesus Christ.
